Election results complete; Recount window opens

The six-day window for filing for a recount of results from the Nov. 2 election is now open.

Oakland County canvassers completed their work late Monday, certifying the results as official ahead of the two-week deadline following the election.
"We finished two days earlier than we originally anticipated so that's a good thing," Oakland County Director of Elections Joe Rozell said Tuesday.
"The six-day recount window starts now," he said. "It will go through the end of the day on Monday, the 22nd."
Rozell had set aside tentative dates of Nov. 29 and 30 for recounts in Royal Oak Township and Oxford Township, where ballot questions seeking tax questions failed by just two votes in both, so those communities can change property tax bills scheduled to go out in early December if the outcomes of the votes change.
But no one has officially asked for recounts yet.
"We haven't gotten any filings yet," Rozell said.
In Royal Oak Township, voters rejected a 4.5-mill property tax increase 376 to 374.
In Oxford Township, voters rejected a 0.75-mill increase for police protection 2,885 to 2,883.
"A registered voter will have to be the one who will pursue that," Oxford Township Clerk Curtis W. Wright said of asking for a recount. "There has been talk that some people are considering it."
A call to Royal Oak Township wasn't immediately returned.
If someone initiates a recount in either township, it'll cost them $10 per precinct to be recounted.
In the Nov. 2 election, there were six voting precincts in Oxford Township and two in Royal Oak Township.
The remainder of the costs of any recounts would be billed to the local communities.
