Inside and outside of Oakland

4 p.m. is the filing deadline for the Aug. 7 and Nov. 6 general elections

Many people interested in seeking non-judicial offices this year have already filed ahead of today's 4 p.m. filing deadline, but many are expected to file at the last minute.
Including judicial races, ballot questions and precinct delegates, the ballot for the Aug. 7 primary in Oakland County promises to be huge, and November's ballot potentially even larger.

Aside from being a presidential election year — and Michigan expected to be a state in play for much of the remaining months until November — Oakland County voters will also be selecting a U.S. senator, state representatives, members of the U.S. House, six countywide officers, 21 county commissioners, township and school board members, plus voting on local ballot issues and picking precinct delegates in advance of state party conventions.
The Oakland County Elections Division and the Michigan Secretary of State are compiling the candidate lists. For candidates filing with the state, the list is at http://miboecfr.nictusa.com/election/candlist/12PRI/12PRI_CL.HTM. For candidates filing in Oakland County, the list is at www.oakgov.com/clerkrod/elections/.
